Free Phone Consultation
Prior to a first appointment, I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation where we will speak briefly about your concerns and I will ask you some questions to make sure that I have the appropriate experience and resources to meet your needs.  You will also be able to ask me questions to see if I am a good fit for what you are looking for from a therapist.

Individual Counseling Sessions
We will then meet for a first session, where I can continue to get to know you and your concerns.  This initial 50-minute session will be a time for us to decide together whether we should move forward in our work together.  For more information about what to expect in a first session, see this blog posting.

Counseling sessions are typically 45 minutes long, although some clients prefer longer 75 minute sessions.  Sessions will often be weekly, but we may decide to meet more or less frequently depending on your current needs.

People often wonder how long they’ll need to attend counseling to reach their goals.  This depends on your specific goals and circumstances, but 8-12 sessions can often be sufficient.  Because every situation is different, you may choose to remain in counseling for a longer period of time.

Couples Counseling Sessions
Couples counseling sessions can be 45, 75, or 90 minutes long, depending on preferences.  When working with a couple, I may meet individually with each person during the assessment process, but most sessions will be held with both members of the couple.
